what happened yesterday is the governor, jerry brown, of california directed the california air resources board to allow the immediate production of the cheaper winter blend of gas. now, this should immediately increase the supply of gasoline and in theory lower these prices that in recent days have skyrocketed. now, of course what you're looking at here, $5.39 for a gallon of gas, that is an extreme. there's cheaper but it's still very expensive. here are the latest numbers from aaa. sf a gallon is running on average just over can say 4.70. oakland and san jose just under $4.70. those prices represent a 46 to 47-cent jump over just the past seven days. usually california does not switch to the winter blend until the end of october. the downside of going early is this blend is not as friendly to the environment. >> the winter blend of gasoline is a similar type of gasoline that doesn't have as stringent air pollution requirements. with summer months, a cleaner version is necessary to reduce ozone when possible. winter gasoline doesn't have to be quite as stringent. >> reporter: no one is
